FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE AGE CHECK
Why am I being asked to verify my age?
SciPlay Games, LLC (“SciPlay”) games are intended only for players who meet the minimum age required in their country or region. In some markets, SciPlay is required to confirm a player's age before they can continue using certain features. Where this applies, SciPlay uses a trusted third-party service to verify a player's age rather than relying on self-reported birthdates alone.
Who carries out the age check for SciPlay?
Age verification is carried out by Kidentify Pte. Ltd (doing business as “k-ID”), a company registered in Singapore with an address at 83 Keong Saik Road, #02-01, Singapore 08968 (“K-ID”). K-ID is an independent age assurance provider. When a check is needed, you will be redirected from the SciPlay app to K-ID's own platform to complete the process. K-ID performs the check, and the SciPlay app is not involved in that step.
How does the check work?
K-ID offers more than one way to verify your age. The primary method is a face scan, which estimates age from a live image without identifying who you are. If a face scan isn't available to you, or doesn't return a result, K-ID offers alternative methods, such as verifying with a government-issued ID card. K-ID will guide you through whichever method applies.
What information does SciPlay receive?
SciPlay does not carry out the check and does not store or have access to the images, documents, or personal details you provide to K-ID during the process. K-ID sends SciPlay only a “yes” or “no” result confirming whether you meet the required age. No age-check data, such as photos, scans, or ID documents, is stored by SciPlay.
Whose privacy policy applies?
While you're completing the age check on K-ID's platform, K-ID's own Privacy Policy applies to how it handles your information for that process. You can review K-ID's Privacy Policy on their website before starting the check. SciPlay's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service continue to apply to your use of the SciPlay app itself.
Outcomes
What happens if I pass the check?
If the check confirms you meet the required age, you'll be returned to the SciPlay app and can proceed to game play. You won't need to repeat the check unless SciPlay asks you to reverify.
What happens if I don't pass the check?
If a result comes back as not meeting the required age, or if the method you tried couldn't confirm your age, you'll have the option to retry using a different verification method. For example, if a face scan doesn't produce a clear result, you can instead verify using a different method offered by K-ID.
If none of the available methods can confirm that you meet the required age, you won't be able to access game play, and your account may be limited accordingly. If you believe this result is incorrect, you can contact SciPlay support for help reviewing your options. Customer Service Help
Can I choose which verification method to use?
K-ID will generally offer the face scan first, as it's the quickest option. If it doesn't work for you, or you'd prefer not to use it, alternative methods such as ID verification are available through K-ID's platform.
Other Questions
Where is age verification currently used?
Age assurance through K-ID is currently active for players in countries which legally require us to check a players age prior to use of the SciPlay apps.
Is my information kept secure?
K-ID is an independent age assurance provider responsible for securing the information you provide during the check, in line with its own Privacy Policy. SciPlay only ever receives a yes/no outcome and does not store the underlying data used to reach that result.
Who do I contact with questions?
If you have questions, please contact SciPlay Player Support through the in-app help section, or by emailing Customer Service Help
How does K-ID verify my age?
K-ID uses a privacy-first, compliance-driven approach to determine a user’s age. K-ID does not rely on a single method but instead use a combination of techniques that meet industry standards and comply with local and international laws. This layered approach helps us verify age more accurately while protecting your privacy and supporting global requirements for child safety and data protection.
Age Estimation – In some cases, K-ID may use estimation technology, which analyzes specific signals associated with a user’s face (combined with liveliness checks) to make an educated guess about a user’s age without storing personal data.
K-ID’s verification methods align with international regulations like COPPA (U.S.), GDPR (Europe), the UK’s Age-Appropriate Design Code, and other global minor safety and privacy laws. K-ID prioritizes minimizing data collection and ensuring that any age verification process is secure, private, and user-friendly.
Does K-ID Store my facial scan or ID?
No. K-ID does not store information you provide during the age-assurance process such as your ID documents, facial scans, or biometric data.
What documents are accepted for the ID Scan?
The ID scan feature typically accepts the following documents:
- National ID: A government-issued identification card. It must be valid, unexpired, and clearly display the expiry date.
- Passport: A government-issued travel document. It must be valid, unexpired, and clearly show the expiry date.
- Driver’s License: Issued by a government or authorized transport agency. It must be valid, unexpired, and include a visible expiry date.
Please note that these are not the only documents accepted by the ID scan. However, they have consistently shown the highest success rates during the verification process.
How do I verify my age with Photo ID?
There are a few things you can do to increase the likelihood of your photo ID scan being accepted:
Use only official, valid government issued IDs. School IDs or other forms of identification that are not linked to an official government database are typically not accepted. Ensure the IDs are valid and not expired.
Use a physical ID, not a picture of one. To prevent fraud, some ID scanning technology will detect when an ID appears to be computer-generated. Using a real, physical ID limits the likelihood of your ID being flagged.
Ensure all fields are clearly visible on the ID. You may need to move the ID around to reduce glare and ensure all fields can be clearly read by the system. K-ID recommends placing your ID on a solid background (e.g., sheet of black/white paper) during the scanning process to reduce the possibility of errors.
Do note that the following are some recommended physical Photo IDs:
- National ID.
- Passport.
- Driver's license.
How do I verify my age with Facial Scan?
There are a few things you can do to help get a more accurate facial scan:
- Ensure your camera is properly set up. If there are issues accessing your camera or smudges on your camera lens, the technology may have difficulty detecting your face.
- Ensure proper lighting. Make sure you do your scan in a reasonably well-lit area, with no excess glare or filters on your face.
- Avoid tilting the phone. A straight, head-on angle provides the most consistent and accurate scan.
- Make sure there is only one face in the frame. If there are multiple faces in the background of your scan, including in photos, this can sometimes result in an error.
- Remove any obstructions on your face. Although not strictly required, removing glasses, hats, or face masks can improve the overall accuracy of your scan.
